More people than ever before are taking prescription drugs and having medical devices implanted into their bodies.
While many drugs and medical devices treat serious conditions and improve quality of life, many drugs and medical devices create more dangers and problems than they solve—and take thousands of lives every year. Many times the companies that make these products push their products onto doctors and ultimately patients without having any idea what the side effects may be, all for the sake of being first to market to improve their bottom line.

Types of Drug & Medical Device Cases
Roundup, manufactured and sold by Monsanto, is the most widely used herbicide in the United States. Billions of pounds of the chemical are applied to crops across the country every year. Recent medical literature determined that exposure to Roundup by skin contact or inhalation may cause Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and subtypes of Non-Hodgkins Lymphona, including, but not limited to, Large Diffuse B-cell, Follicular Lymphoma, Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia, Mantle Cell and Cutaneous T-cell.
Given the nature of their job, farm workers are at the highest risk of injury caused by dermal or inhalation exposure to Roundup. Also, residential home use, such as gardening, driveways/walkways, construction, and yard maintenance, can be a significant contributing factor to the development of injury.
Talcum powder, also commonly known as “baby powder,” has been used by mothers to help reduce diaper rash in their babies, as well as by women as a personal hygiene product, for generations. However, recent studies have linked the use of talcum powder in the genital area to an increased risk of developing ovarian cancer.
In July 2018, manufacturer Johnson & Johnson was ordered to pay $4.7 billion in damages to 22 women claiming to have developed ovarian cancer from the use of the company’s talcum powder products. Since then, more women have come forward with their own stories about the potential negative side effects of talcum powder use.
Despite this, talcum powder products are still largely unregulated by the government, and manufacturers do not warn consumers of the potential link between talc-containing products and ovarian cancer.
Electronic cigarettes, also known as vapes use a liquid that contains nicotine and various types of flavors. The liquid is heated through the use of a battery and heating coils. The liquid becomes a vapor and is inhaled by the user. This is often referred to as vaping. JUUL products are the most common form of e-cigarettes being utilized, with over half of the market share. JUUL pods look similar to a USB flash drive and contain dangerously high amounts of nicotine. A single JUUL pod contains the same amount of nicotine as an entire pack of traditional cigarettes. Additionally, JUUL pods have a much higher concentration of nicotine than cigarettes and the nicotine is absorbed by the body at a higher rate than cigarettes. These devices can result in addiction and lung damage, such as “popcorn lung.”
An inferior vena cava (IVC) filter is a small device that is designed to stop blood clots from going up into the lungs. The inferior vena cava is a large vein in the middle of your body. The device is put in during a short surgery. Unfortunately, these devices can lead to injury or death in several ways. First, the IVC filter can fracture or break, resulting in a piece of the IVC filter traveling through the blood stream and ending up in another party of the body, including the lungs or the heart. Second, the IVC filter can perforate or puncture the inferior vena cava, causing damage outside the inferior vena cava and, in some cases, making the device impossible to remove the IVC filter from the body. Finally, the body can end up clotting around the IVC filter, causing dangerous blockages.
Compared to other knee replacement implants, Attune knees have had an “unusually high” early failure rate. In fact, the FDA has received more than 230 reports about Attune knee implant tibial loosening. Tibial loosening happens when the plate attached to one of the lower leg bones comes loose. Tibial loosening can lead to instability or dislocation, which can result in an additional surgeries to remove and replace the defective knee implant.
